MC Fadden Of Cranford AC Crowned Ulster Champion U15 Boys, Mc Bride gets Silver U11.

Cranford AC compete at NI and Ulster uneven ages championships in Finn Valley centre

A very wet and windy morning welcomed our athletes and supporters to the well laid out and challenging course to compete in the NI & Ulster championships held at the Finn Valley centre, Stranorlar.

First up for today and on the starting line were the U9 boys where Faolan Caldwell had a fabulous run finishing in 11th place in Ulster a great run out for Faolan today.

With the weather not letting up , the U11 girls took on the next race

Aimee Bassett  (49) and Olivia Curran(56) running brilliant and both girls had a strong race , with the girls part over next was the U11 boys with over 100 competes taking to the starting line and they did not disappoint we had a Ulster silver individual medal winner Oisin Mc bride who was out at  the front of the pack the whole way and had a fantastic race, fighting to he crossed the line he  was closely followed by his teammates Oisin mc Hugh (22) Matthew Giles (27) Ben McGee (45) Edward Boyce (55) Lorcan Boyce (73) and Rory Boyce (80)all the boys ran a brilliant race.

Our two U13 girls Lilla Gerwatowska (46) and Karen Neely,(82) both put in gutsy performances over this increasingly slippery 2k track to finish strongly well up this field of talented athletes.

Cranfords only entrant to brave the wet and windy conditions here in Finn Valley for the U13 boys killian Caldwell (66) still carrying a slight injury but managed to finish.

Unfortunately both our senior girls teams were struck down with illness which was disappointing as both teams had chances of qualifying for the All Ireland championship with their Gold medal titles in Donegal. This left all the work for those girls who braved the blustery conditions today to compete for their place on the Donegal or Ulster team.

Lining up for Cranford in the U15 competition to run against an extremely talented field of athletes to run over this 3000m course were Miah Fletcher (17) , Laoise Lynch, (43) Ellie Mc Fadden. (47) All these girls put in brilliant personal performances today, well done!

Caolan Mc Fadden fresh from his exceptional 3rd place in the U16 championship was up for the challenge today, not deterred by the muddy conditions under foot ,although the sun was starting to come out the wind was still up , Caolan showed his experience as an athlete by getting out with lead pack and leading this race from the start. Caolan ran a steady race throughout to earn himself the well deserved title of Ulster Champion.

The ever cheerful and optimistic U17 girls were keen to get started over this 4000m. The track was exceptionally slippery at this stage but our girls held their form to finish over this challenging course bringing the team home was Clodagh Neely  in 20th place Orla Neely(31)and Jessica Cullen (29)

The U19 boys ran over 6k and saw Oisin Kelly run strongly throughout this race to finish ab excellent 17th place in Ulster and a counter on the Donegal team.

The final race of the day Dymphna Gallagher warmed up and ready for her Novice women’s race over 4K . Dymphna had a good running style and maintained her place in the middle of the field throughout.

Congratulations to those athletes who qualified to represent their county at the All Ireland championships to be held in Santry early December.

We are looking forward to the relay competition next weekend hoping that our athletes are feeling well again and returned to training. This is always a fun event for the club athletes with great team spirit.

The club appreciates the support and commitment from all our coaches, parents and supporters making this such a successful and enjoyable day for everyone.
