On Sunday the 4th of June, the peace link Clones, Co Monaghan ,hosted the Children’s Games & U 12 & U 13 Ulster & NI Championships.
Cranford AC had 24 of our young athletes compete in what was very high standard of competition, the best of Ulster came out in force to compete for Ulster medals and titles.
On what was a early start to a very busy and long day with mixed weather conditions.
First up was our U/9 Girls Tara MC Garvey and Karen Neely this was these girls first Ulsters and they give it their all both girls ran a good 300m and they had a great performance in the Turbo Javelin this was a team event and the Girls came 3rd Team and now have qualified for the Nationals later in the month.
Killian Caldwell was our only boy U9 he had a good race in the 300m and had a good jump in the long jump.
Lucie MC Garvey ran in the Girls U 10 60m and 500m, Lucie had a great run in the 500m with a very impressive 10th place finish.
We had three in the boys U 10 Diarmuid Gallagher, Michael Moore and Daithi Cannon all doing very well in their events. Michael and Daithi did very well in the long jump getting a 2nd Team place qualifying them now for the Nationals. Diarmuid and Michael had good runs in the 500m getting a 4th Team place.
Miah Fletcher was our only U11 girl she competed in the 60m and 600m and she was in great form on Sunday running a great 600m race fitting to the end and getting a well deserved silver medal.
Our U 11 boys were out in force with Caolan MC Fadden, Dean Hewitson,Ryan McMenamin and Alex Geruatowski. Caolan had a great day starting off the day with a silver medal in the long jump he got off to a great start in the 600m and no one was going to catch him he led from start to finish and claimed the Ulsters Title. Dean also had a great day with himself and Caolan getting 1st place in the long jump Team event and 2nd in the 600m team event. Ryan and Alex also competed well in the team events coming 8th team in the 600m and 10th team in the long jump. These boys also competed in the relay with a 5th place finish.
Our U 12 Girls were Blathnaid Gallagher and Clodagh Neely, both girl ran well in the 600m and competed in the Turbo Javelin and shot put Blathnaid came 13th in Shot put and 14th in Turbo Clodagh came 13th in Turbo and 15th in shot.
Oisin MC Nulty, Aidan McFadden, and Eoin Friel all competed in the Boys U 12, all three boys ran well in the 600m,Oisin and Aidan had good run in the 60m and Oisin came 12th in the long jump and Aidan 16th well done boys.
Next up we had the Girls U 13 with Orla Neely, Teresa Mullen, Nazara McFadden and Caoimhe Neely. Orla had a good day with a 6th place in the Javelin getting a PB with a throw of 13.38m and 9th place in the Shot put. Teresa had a great day getting in the podium twice with a bronze medal in the 80m and bronze in the long jump.
Nazara had a good run in the 600m coming home in 17th place. Caoimhe had a fine run in 80m sprint.
Nazara,Teresa, Clodagh and Caoimhe ran well in the relay coming home in 6th place.
Cian McMenamin, Connor Neely and Max Roarty were our Boys U 13 Cian and Max both ran in the 600m with good performances. Cian competed in the Shot put and done well with a 9th place finish. Max finished up 12th in the long jump and Connor had a top ten finish in the Javelin.
Well done to all these young athletes who competed on the day.
