All Ireland National Championships at Santry

A bright sunny crisp morning welcomed our Cranford Athletes to Santry Demesne on Sunday morning. The excitement was building for this the first National event for our young Under 12s. All our Cranford athletes must be congratulated on achieving National qualification today.

Lilla Gerwatowska got the squad off to a good start with her strong run in this large field of under 12 athletes, Lilla had a strong run today and this experience of competing on this level will hold her in good stead.

The U12 boys again fought hard throughout this hotly contested race with Oisin Mc bride first to bring this team home, closely followed by Odhran Mc Groddy, Jerry Coyle fought off a stitch to complete this 2k challenge and Dylan finnegan brought this team home.  Fabulous gutsy performances from our Cranford boys, great racing today.

Miah Fletcher and Caolan McFadden both these 14 year olds were running in the under 16 age group and had it all to run for over their 4K of this beautiful country park.

Miah having recently recovered from illness was not deterred and keen to get started however today was not to be her day, Miah stayed in the middle of this field throughout hopefully she will have recovered enough for the next Nationals in Kilkenny.

Caolan representing Ulster And Donegal, was in fine form this afternoon and stayed with the lead pack of 12 athletes throughout. Caolan challenged well throughout his 4K, this was an exciting race to watch and Caolan showed great composure finishing in a well deserved 6th position, and 2nd counter on the gold winning Ulster team, a great achievement for the Creeslough 14 year old.

Oisin Kelly was well prepared and on the line today, Oisin had a tough race in the U20 /U18 mixed categories running over this 6k course. Oisin stayed up with the pack showing his experience and finishing in a well deserved 24th place in Ireland and a bronze Ulster team medal.

The club would like to thank the coaches for travelling to Dublin to support our athletes, our parents and family support which means so much to us all.  The team support and encouragement means so much to our athletes when they’re working through their race.
