Cranford U16 girls team had a stunning Gold medal performance at Donegal relays.

7 relay teams line up for Cranford at the Donegal relay championships

Last Sunday saw a mild and damp morning for our relay teams at the Donegal Championships. Each team was excited and ready to represent their club over their 500 m relay leg.

Cranford had two teams represented in the U9 boys event running in this hotly contested 500m relay, leading the team in the first lap was Faolan Caldwell, Charlie Rogers managed to maintain Cranfords 3rd place position while Bobby Browne pulled the team into 2nd place position and Finn Sweeney finished strongly earning the team silver medals. Exciting running from these boys and fabulous club support from all the Cranford club.

The other Under 9 team ran strongly and in his first event for Cranford was Michael Bassett, second runner Cody  Boyce  held the teams position, with Harry Mc Hugh running a strong 3rd leg and final runner James Cooney brought his team home with his gutsy performance. Great running boys!

Under 10 boys

Oisin Mc Hugh got this team off to a fabulous 1st position start, 2nd runner in this leg was Ben McGee who kept the excitement alive with a neck and neck run with Letterkenny AC, and Rory Boyce on 3rd leg held a good lead throughout with Letterkenny chasing all the way on this exciting 500m leg, final runner was Edward Boyce who had a great start but was chased by two strong Letterkenny teams, such an exciting competition for the Cranford supporters in this racing today and well deserved bronze Donegal medals today.

An experienced group of U12 girls lined up on the track to run this 500m leg with 14 teams fighting for the Donegal championship race, first up for Cranford was the ever enthusiastic Lilla Gerwatowska who stayed with the lead pack, Olivia Curran, fought hard to maintain this place amongst strong Finn valley teams, Aimee Bassett ran the 3rd leg and maintained the placing and the final runner for Cranford Aedin Mc Hugh brought this exhausted team home. Great running and team support from these girls today.

Under 12 boys

Lorcan Boyce, caoimhin Coyle, Dylan Finnegan, Cian Sweeney all ran well with enthusiasm in this their first relay event to make this an enjoyable and exciting day for all clubs.

The final team to represent Cranford AC today as the sun began to shine was our Under 16 girls whose gold medal performance was never in any doubt, running the first leg was Miah Fletcher who earned the team an impressive lead, Jessica Cullen  held the lead against the chasing triconail  team, Ellie Mc Fadden stormed round this 500m in her elegant running style and finally Clodagh Neely had a fabulous personal performance earning this team Donegal relay champions title.

The club look forward to supporting our athletes who have qualified to compete at the All Ireland Cross Country championships next weekend in Santry.
