Cranford AC at Templemore Sports Complex in Derry

Last Thursday evening saw a large group of Cranford athletes travel to Derry for the Track and Field Open Competition hosted by Olympian AC.

Our U9 boys of Caolan McFadden, Ryan McMenamin and Aiden McFadden all did very well with Caolan winning gold medals in the long jump, 80m and 300m and Ryan winning gold in the turbo javelin, silver in the long jump and bronze in the 300m.

The U11 girls were well represented with Nazara McFadden, Clodagh Neely, Caoimhe Browne, Orla Neely, Blaithnaid Gallagher and Caoimhe Neely all competing well with Nazara winning a silver medal in the 80m and gold in the 600m and Orla winning silver in the turbo javelin.

The u11 boys also had a great night with Max Roarty winning gold medals in the long jump with a great jump of 3.63m, gold in the 80m and 600m and bronze in the turbo javelin. Conor Neely won gold in the turbo javelin and silver in the long jump and Cian McMenamin silver in the 600m.

There were more medals for our U13 girls with Aoife Giles winning gold in the javelin and shot putt and silver in the long jump and Marcella Dolan winning gold medals in both the 80m and long jump.

The u13 boys did very well with Allan Neely winning silver in the shot putt and 600m, Killian Browne winning a bronze medal in the shot putt, Oran McMenamin bronze in the 600m and Oisin Kelly gold in the 600m and long jump and silver in the 80m sprint.

Our only U15 girl was Molly Trearty who kept the medals coming with a gold in the 800m, silver in the shot putt and bronze in the 100m sprint.

Charles Roarty was our only U17 boy in what was his first competition for Cranford with him running well in the 100m and 400m.

Christopher Murray also had a good race in the 400m claiming a bronze medal.

Thanks to coaches Eamon Giles and Rose Gavaghan for all their support and the parents who travelled to Derry on what turned out to be a very cold evening.

Next up for Cranford is the National finals in Tullamore where we wish all our young athletes good luck.
