Cranford AC Boxing Day run
Boxing Day saw a good turn out of athletes for our annual Boxing Day race around Cranford park, all our local athletes were familiar with this territory although the recent rain had made things slippery under foot. A mild morning welcomed us to Cranford park however it wasn’t long until the fine Missle rain had us prepared for a wet run round the park.
First up to run 400m this afternoon were Under 7 & 8 who all took the Cranford course in their stride and ran a strong half lap, good to see so many enthusiastic runners this afternoon. 1st home was Owen Cuskelly Letterkenny, 2nd Konall Logue Rosses, 3rd Clara Walsh Cranford, 4th Aoibhin Mc Menamin Doherty Cranford.
Under 9 & 10 who were light of foot ran round their 600m in great times, with Daragh Duffy pipping Matthew Giles on the line with 3rd Enya Logue, 4th Oisin Giles, 5th Faolan Caldwell, 6th Ben Mc Gee, 7th James Cooney, 8th Charlie Rodgers.
And finally in the juvenile and Under 11 & 12 groups ran together and Under 13 & 14 had a good strong lap and a bit, to make up their 1500m
Oisin Mc Bride took victory in the U12 with Owen Duffy Letterkenny in 2nd, 3rd Ciaron Cooney Cranford,4th Aileen Logue Rosses 5th Oran Mc Groddy Cranford,6th Michael Logue Rosses, 7th Lilla Gerwatowska Cranford, 8th Ronan Lynch Cranford 9th Dylan Finnegan Cranford.
First 3 under 14 killian Caldwell Cranford, Eva Logue Rosses and Karen Neely Cranford.
Between races Myles Gallagher MC paid a fitting tribute to those who are no longer with us this year, most recently, the brother of our chairman and a well respected Cranford athlete Paul Giles.
The Bill Hunter and Winifred Gallagher Memorial Boxing Day Run at Cranford Park saw these enthusiastic competitors run 5km round the challenging course in Cranford. Each athlete had a gutsy performance digging in during the long hills and stretching out on the downhill slopes.
Cranfords own two junior athletes Caolan Mc Fadden and Miah Fletcher led their respective races from the gun. Both these athletes fresh from National performances and maintaining their stamina made the Cranford track look effortless.
