Caldwell and Coyle Crowned Donegal Champion.

Last Wednesday evening it was the turn off the U9 & 10 in Finn Valley at the Donegal Championship.

We had 9 athletes travel and for many of them it was their first competition and we had some great performances from our young athletes.

Our only U9 Girl was Sarah Coyle and she had a busy evening competing in all 4 of her events, her best event was the turbo Javelin throwing over 5m and getting a top 10 finish.

Our U 9 Boys were out in force with 5 boys taking to the start, Faolán Caldwell had a great evening with a well deserved Gold medal and the title of Donegal Champion in the 300m, he led from start to finish. He also got a silver in the long jump and made the final in the 60m. Great achievement and one to watch out for.

Charlie Rogers first run out for Cranford and with a very impressive leap in his long jump finish 5th place overall.

Oisin Giles also made his debut and with a great jump in his long finished in the top 10.

Seamus mc Closkey and Bobby Browne also had a busy evening competing in all 4 events best for Seamus was the Turbo and the 600m Bobby had a good jump in his long jump and a great 60m.

The U9 boys were not finished yet  they still had the relay to run and with Oisin Giles taking up the  first leg got the boys off to a great start handing over to Faolán who powered down the back straight and with Seamus running a great bend handing over to Charlie who gave it everything down the home straight claiming the bronze medal.

Our U 10 were up next and Cassie  Finnegan was our only U10 Girl, and had a great evening Cassie had a great long jump making the top 10 in a very large field.

Cranford had 2 U10 Boys Matthew Giles and Rory Boyce Matthew made the final of the 60m and just missed out on the medals, he had a great run in the 500m and 6th in the Turbo.

Rory had a good run in the 500m finishing very strong and jumped well in his long Jump.

Sunday was the Donegal Championship U12&13 held in Lifford.

Cranford was out in force again and not only did the sun shine so did our Athletes.

Jerry Coyle was in top form getting the Double, Donegal Champion in both the Long jump with a new PB of 4.42 m and the 60m sprint led from the Gun. A impressive way to start thee season.

Ciaran Cooney was back in form again and was unlucky not to medal, Ciaran made the final of the 60m and finished 4th and ran a great race in the 600m, Ciaran finished 7th in the long jump very good all rounder.

Odhran mc Groddy had a busy day also and his best event was the turbo getting a 7th place finish throwing over 11m.

Fiona Mc Menamin making his debut for Cranford got  on well in his long jump and ran with grit in his 600m.

Dylan Finnegan also his first run out for Cranford and did very well giving his all in both his events, best for Dylan was his 60m  he gained great experience and looking forward to his next competition.

The boys also took part in the Relay and just got piped for 3rd place great run for these boys to come 4th in Donegal.

Lilla Gerwatouska had a fine run in the 600m just missed out on a medal coming home in 4th place, she also took part in the long jump.

Karen Neely and Cliodhna mc Bride was our only U 13 girls, Karen got a New PB in her Javelin throwing over 9m and a 8th place finish.

Cliodhna had a great run in the 600m coming home in 2nd place fighting to the finishing line, Cliodhna also finished 5th in her long jump with a jump of 3.89 m. Good work girls.

Ryan Sheehy and Killian Caldwell  and Ethan Henderson  competing in the Boys U13, Ryan made the final of the 60m and finished in 7th place in his long jump and ran well in his 600m.

Killian had a great throw in the Javelin throwing over 15m and finishing an impressive 4th place and 8th in his long jump.

We now look forward to this weekend where its the turn of the U14 -19 ages in the Ulster Championship at Mary Peters track Belfast. We wish them the Best of luck
