Another great weekend for our young Cranford AC athletes at the National Championship in Tullamore.
What was a very mixed bag weather wise between very heavy showers and the sun splitting the rocks the norm in Ireland.
Cliodhna mc Bride was up first in her 600m, Cliodhna didn’t get off to a great start getting blocked in and had a lot of work to get out of the situation but that she did and put in a gutsy performance finishing up in 9th place overall.
Cliodhna then togged out for her 100m this is a new event for Cliodhna and did well in her heat. Cliodhna has a very successful season and will take a few weeks rest now and back then for Cross Country Season.
Jerry Coyle was next up for Cranford, Jerry will no every turn on the road to Tullamore as he was up two weeks ago and won his 3rd place National medal in the long jump.
Jerry was in the 60m and with two false starts the boys were all very nervous, Jerry had a good strong race and just missed out on a place in the final. Jerry will also take a well earned rest and come back fresh for cross country season.
It was then the turn of our Children Games athletes, Cranford AC had 3 teams, considering of 5 boys. This was the boys first All Ireland’s and definitely won’t be their last with some great performances.
We had the duo of Oisin Giles and Faolan Caldwell up first in the boys U9 long jump, this is a team event and the boys both jumped very well, finishing well up the field. Ones to watch in future.
Faolan then paired up with Charlie Rodgers in the 300m and the boys both ran very well finishing 10th place in Ireland.
We then finished the day with the pairing of Ben Mc Gee and Matthew Giles, in the U10 boys long jump both boys jumping over 3m which is very impressive for this age, the boys went on to finish in the top 6 overall and look forward to the rest.
We like to thank our coaches who traveled over the 3 weekends, to encourage our athletes and to the parents who traveled to Tullamore.
