Caolan McFadden 1500m Ulster Champion
After their first week back in secondary school (Loreto Milford), following new guidelines and structure, three Cranford AC athletes travelled to Belfast to compete at the final phase of the NI and Ulster athletics Championships at the Mary Peters Track.  The team arrived to a beautiful evening in Belfast and did their warm up through the sprawling forest park surrounding the track.  Miah Fletcher ran in the second of the two heats in the U14 Girls 1500m, Miah ran a strong race in the 1500m finishing 3rd in her heat but not enough a medal today. Caolan McFadden demonstrated his experience and composure during his 1500m race, staying in the lead pack throughout before making his break in the final lap to leave the pack behind and finish with a good lead in a time of 4.42.02 earning himself a well-deserved Ulster gold medal.Oisin Kelly again demonstrated true grit and determination in a gutsy race throughout, Oisin held strong in his race against tough opposition in this exciting challenge across the 1500m event.  Oisin fought until the end to secure himself a well-deserved Silver Ulster medal. On Saturday morning it was the turn of Aoife Giles, and with Aoife back in form she was looking forward to competing in the senior ladies Discus she got into the last 8 final and with a great last throw of over 25m got her self in to the bronze medal position great achievement for Aoife in this event. Well done to all our athletes who travelled to Belfast and thank you too to the coaches who travelled to support them.  We are looking forward to starting the cross-country season with an open event at Finn Valley 27th September and closely followed by the Ulster Championships in Belfast 25th October, these are great team events so we encourage our athletes to join in and encourage your team members.
