Two Donegal Titles for Cranford AC.

On what was perfect conditions for cross country running, Cranford AC made the journey to Rosses to compete in the Donegal Championship uneven ages.

Our girls U9 started the day off for Cranford with Orla Cunningham having a great run coming home in 9th place closely followed by Anna Giles. Our U9 boys consisted of Jerry Coyle, Ciaran Cooney and Odhran Mc Groddy. Ciaran had a fine race finishing in 9th place followed home by Odhran in 16th place. Unfortunately Jerry had to pull out due to illness.  The girls and boys were rewarded with well deserved medals.

Our u11 Girls were up next with Cliodhna Mc Bride, Karen Neely, Emma McGee and Beth McClafferty. Cliodhna had a great run coming home in 3rd place followed home by her team mates Karen, Emma, and Beth – the girls finishing 5th team overall. Our u11 boys all got off to a good start and running well Michael Moore lead the Cranford boys home crossing the line in 13th position. Kilian Caldwell and Diarmuid Gallagher both had a good run finishing in the middle of the field.

Our u13 Girls took to the field next. The course suited these girls and what a performance they put in with Miah Fletcher at the front of the field throughout and after a superb run was the deserved Donegal Champion followed closely by Clodagh Neely who put in a gutsy performance and fought hard to the end to cross the line in 7th place with Joycelene Diver running very well in 8th and Ellie McFadden in 18th. These girls went on to win Silver team medals with Blathnaid Gallagher & Aine O’Connell making up the rest of the team.

The U13 boys was another competitive race with our very own Caolan McFadden fighting for the medals.  Caolan put in a fine performance coming home in 3rd place, Eoin Friel ran very well to come home in 14th and was followed closely by Aidan Mc Fadden.

Our U15 Girls were out in full force and showed real Club spirit packing well from the start with Caitlin O’Hara leading the team home in 9th place, Teresa Mullen in 11th, Nazara McFadden in 12th and Orla Neely in 16th. These girls were rewarded with team bronze – great performance girls.

Last but by no means least Oisin Kelly was our sole competitor in the boys U15 and Oisin lead from the gun, on a course that suited him with lots of hills Oisin stretched his lead with each step  winning comfortably and taking the title Donegal Champion.

Well done to all the athletes who competed so well today. Thanks to our coaches Eamon Giles, Joe Boyce, Ernie McElhinney, Bridie Trearty and Rose Gavaghan.

Thanks to all the parents for travelling and for helping out on the day.

Next for Cranford AC is the Ulsters Even ages on Saturday 27th October in Greensmount, Co Antrim. Good luck to everyone taking part.
