Successful day for Cranford at Glaslough races
Sunday saw a strong team of athletes travel to the home of Glaslough Harriers club to compete in the annual Glaslough races in the beautiful setting of the historic Castle Leslie estate.
Our team of athletes were well prepared for this competition and lined up along with a competitive field of athletic clubs.
Faolán Caldwell and James Cooney who making his debut for Cranford entered the U8 race, both boys put in fine performances over this mainly up hill 200m course to the finish line in Glaslough village, both boys earned individual medals in this competition.
Olivia Ni Curran was our only representative in the U10 girls race over 400m, well done Olivia this was good outing against strong opposition.
U10 boys had 400m of this challenging course and our 3 boys competed well, Ciaran Cooney put in a fine performance to finish 3rd place to be awarded a club trophy, followed closely by team mates Odhran McGroddy and Lorcan Boyce, well done boys.
The U12 girls had a competitive field on this 800m course again these girls did the club proud with cliondhna Mc Bride coming home in 3rd place followed closely by Leah gallagher, 4th and Karen Neely finishing strongly. The U12 boys put in fine performances with Killian Caldwell and Diarmuid Gallagher competing strongly.
There was a strong team of U14 girls, who had a great race over this challenging 1k course. Beautiful Medals were awarded to Miah Fletcher,Clodagh Neely, Joycelene Diver and Ellie McFadden who were all in the top 10, Amy Cullen just missed out on a medal today but finished strongly well up the field.
Caolan McFadden excelled in his U14 boys race gaining the coveted trophy in first place with Eoin Friel following closely coming 5th, great performances from these boys. The final race for Cranford saw Blathnaid Gallagher and Orla Neely compete 2k in the U16 girls race, both girls ran exceptionally well finishing in 7th and 8th again receiving well deserved medals.
Points from this competition are totaled with the best juvenile club being awarded the sir Shane Leslie cup. Cranford have a strong record in this competition however unfortunately with depleted teams, today was not our day.
