Success for Cranford AC at Ulster Indoor Championships in Magherafelt Last weekend saw our athletes travel to Magherafelt for the Ulster Indoor Track and Field Championships. This was the first indoors for some and with the event being ran over two day some athletes had to make the journey to Magherafelt on both days. We got off to a great start in the boys U/12 long jump with Max Roarty winning a bronze medal with a fine jump of 3m 56 cm followed closely by Cian McMenamim with a jump of 3m 14 cm. Max and Cian both ran very well in the 600m coming in a respectable 6th and 9th place overall. Our Girls u/12 were up next with Orla Neely throwing well in the shot put finishing 11th overall. In the u/12 600m race we had strong performances from Teresa Mullen, Ciara Donnelly and Leah McDaid in their first indoor competition. Caitlin O’Hara and Sophie Curran both ran very in the u/13 girls 600m race with both girls improving with each race. In the u/13 boys 600m there was more success for Cranford with Oisin Kelly leading from the gun and with what looked like an effortless performance finished in 1 minute 44 seconds, 8 seconds ahead of the field, claiming his first gold of the day. Liam Donnelly and Oran McMenamim also ran very well with Liam finishing in an impressive 6th place. Oisin won his second gold medal with a brilliant jump of 4m 43 cm in the u/13 long jump with Liam Donnelly also jumping very well with a great jump of 4m 25 cm winning him a bronze medal. Allan Neely was up next in the u/14 boys 800m where he had a good strong run finishing very well. In the u/15 girls 800m Molly Trearty had a great race and after a strong finish came home in a superb 5th place overall. On Sunday it was all about the shot putt with Allan Neely throwing well in the u/14 event finishing in 8th place. Johnny Trearty and Oran McMenamim showed some great technique in the u/13 boys shot putt finishing in 7th and 8th place. Aoife Giles closed what was a great weekend for Cranford with a massive throw and new personal best of 10m 08 cm in the u/13 girls shot putt which won her a well deserved gold medal. A massive well done to all the athletes for what was a great weekend for Cranford coming home with 3 gold and 2 bronze medals. Thanks as always to the coaches Eamon Giles, Joe Boyce, Ernie McElhinney, Rose Gavaghan and Bridie Trearty for all their hard work and support and to all the parents that travelled with the children. Good luck to Max, Oisin, Liam and Aoife who now travel to Athlone in March for the National Indoor Championships.
