Cranford AC had three Athletes travel to Lifford to compete in the throws festival which was run by Lifford Strabane AC. On a day that had all four seasons rolled into one, first up was the Discus - this was a new event for our three girls. First to throw was Orla Neely in the Girls U14 where she threw over 10m, a great start for this event. Aoife Giles and Megan Hegarty also got on very well with Aoife winning a silver medal and Megan in her first competition for Cranford had some very good throws. Teresa Mullen made the long journey to Athlone to compete in the National indoor championship  Girls U14 long jump Teresa got three good jumps in and got her self into the final  8 with another three jumps and came away with an impressive 4th place just missing out on the bronze medal. Cranford AC perform well at the Glaslough Road races Monday last saw a large group of young athletes travel to Glaslough in Co Monaghan for the yearly road race event on what was a bitterly cold day. First up was the u8 girls where Tara McGarvey had a great run to come home in 1st place earning herself a well deserved Gold trophy. N In the u10 girls Cliodhna McBride had a brilliant race to come home in first place and win the Gold Trophy followed by Karen Neely who had a great run coming home in 5th place winning herself a lovely medal. Cranford AC Notes. Cranford AC had three of our finest athletes travelled to Athlone last weekend to compete in the National Indoor Championships. Miah Fletcher was up first in the Girls U12 600m which was 3 laps of the indoor arena, Miah got off to a good start and held her own throughout the race and just faded coming down the home straight finishing up in 5th place in her heat. Cranford AC held a very successful Awards Night in the Beach Hotel in Downing on Friday last. Myles Gallagher our MC for the night thanked everyone for coming along and called on Cathaoirleach Cllr Gerry McMonagle to present the first award of the night to best attender at training Orla Neely and for his commitment to training and winning a Bronze medal at the Donegal cross country, the most improved athlete of the year went to Oran McMenamin.   A group of Cranford AC Juvenile Athletes travelled to Templemore to compete in Olympican AC Winter Track & Field open event. On what was a very wet day it didn’t dampen these young athletes spirits, our day got off to a great start with Tara Mc Garvey getting our first medal in the Girls U9 60m and Jerry Coyle having a great day with Gold in the 60m and Gold in the 300m Jerry led from start to finish well done Jerry. Three Ulster Titles for Cranford AC at the Ulster / NI indoor Championships. On what was a two day event the Ulster and Northern Ireland indoor Championship took place in Athlone. A early start on sat morning 6 of Cranford AC Athletes made the journey down to Athlone IT indoor arena. Teresa Mullen got the day off to a great start winning the Girls U14 long jump this is the second year that Teresa won this title Ulster champion in this event Teresa goes on now to the Nationals in March.     Cranford AC Notes DONEGAL ATHLETICS AWARDS 2017   A lovely evening was spent at the Finn Valley Centre last Friday night where 5 our athletes were honored at the Donegal Athletics Boards, the athletes were Aoife Giles, Miah Fletcher, Teresa Mullen, Caolan Mc Fadden and Oisin Kelly. Well done to all athletes and thank you to all the parents and coaches that travelled to share in this special night.   North West indoor Games Kids serve up a storm at Northwest Games! A brilliant initiative organised by Bernie O’Callaghan as a way to drawing down the curtain on 2017 saw Cranford Athletes take to the AIT Arena to blow off some Christmas cobwebs with over 400 hundred competitors and 34 clubs taking part.
