Cranford's AC Day at National Indoor Championships The indoor season has come to an end for another year with great success for our Cranford AC Athletes at the National Indoor Championships held in Athlone IT. First up on Saturday morning was Aoife Giles defending her National Title in the shot putt. After her opening throws Aoife was laying in second place, with only 6 now left in the final, her massive throw of 11.59m moved her into first place where she stayed and earned her the Gold Medal and the Girls u14 National Title. Well done to Oisin Kelly who had a great jump of 4.63m in the yesterdays u14 boys long jump and to Johnny McGroddy who came home in 6th place in the u16 boys 1500m with a great time of 4.27 on what was a very close race with only 4 seconds separating the first 6 places. Cranford AC perform well at Glaslough Road races Sunday last saw a large group of young athletes travel to Glaslough in Co Monaghan for the yearly road race event on what was a lovely sunny day. First up was the u8 girls race where Tara McGarvey ran very well to come home in 7th place earning herself a well deserved medal. Next up was the u10 boys where James Travers had a great race to come home in 2nd position to win a silver trophy closely followed by Daithi Cannon, Killian Caldwell and Diarmuid Gallagher.     On what was a very wet and cold evening a number of Cranford AC Athletes travelled to Templemore Derry to compete in a open meet held by Olympic AC. First up for Cranford was our U9's with Tara MC Garvey and Killian Caldwell both athletes ran very well with Tara coming 2nd in the 60m and Killian came 3rd in the 60m. Our u11's were up next with Mia Fletcher,Lucie MC Garvey, Caolan MC Fadden and Ryan MC Menamin Mia was in good form on the night and came 2nd in the 60m and won the 500m. Subject: Cranford presentation Night Cranford AC Presentation night at the Beach Hotel, Downings on Friday 24th February 2017. Myles Gallagher was the Master of Ceremonies for the Cranford presentation night for the year 2016 held at the Beach Hotel on Friday. Certificates were awarded to all the athletes by Mairead Giles, Dymphna Gallagher, Shauna Giles and Claire Neely. Cranford AC notes   All roads led to Waterford for our 6 Cranford AC Athletes who took part in the National  B's and Masters Cross Country Championships on what was a good but tough cross country course. Our two under 11 girls Clodagh Neely and Blathnaid Gallagher were first to take to the course and with over 120 girls starting the girls didn't get a great start but both managed to move up the field battling to the end with Clodagh finishing in 25th position and Blathnaid in 77th.   On what was a cold and frosty start to the weekend Cranford made the journey to the Meadowbank  Sports Arena in Magherafelt for the Ulster Indoor Championships which is run over two days.   First up on Saturday were our U/12's with Oisin McNulty who had a great jump in the long jump getting his personal best and a good run in the 600m fighting to the line. Aidan MC Fadden also competed in the long jump and 600m. Aidan did very well coming back to his fine form again. Cranford AC travel to the Indoor North West Championships in Athlone IT Cranford AC had a early start for the long journey to Athlone for the Indoor North West Championships last Friday. Teresa Mullen got the day off to a great start when she won gold in the u12 long jump with a brilliant jump of 3.93m. Conor Neely also had a great jump of 3.92m to claim silver in the u12 boys long jump with Max Roarty, Cian McMenamin, Ryan McMenamin and Caolan McFadden all jumping well.
