Sunday last saw the group of qualifying Cranford athletes take part in the All-Ireland Cross Country Even Age, in Santry, Dublin. In fine running conditions, the Cranford group were led off by Molly Trearty in the U-12 girls. Molly had a great run and finished 30th in a field of well over 100 runners. This was a fine performance in Molly's first All-Ireland. Next out were the team of U-12 boys. Star of the day was Johnny Mc Groddy, who had an impressive run to finish 5th and win an individual medal.Johnny led the field at different stages of the race and well deserved his 5th place medal. Sunday last saw Cranford athletes take part in the Ulster Cross Country Uneven Ages in Gransha, Derry. On a cold, but bright, sunny day Cranford athletes performed very well. Aoife Giles started the day off with a good run in the U-11 girls. THe U-11 boys were well represented by Oisín Kelly, who finished 12th collecting the first medal of the day. He was followed closely home by Liam Donnelly in 18th position,and by Allan Neely, Johnny Trearty, Oran Mc Menamin, Shane Coll and Killian Browne. Well done boys, some great running by all. Sunday last saw a large group of Cranford athletes take part in the Donegal Even Ages Cross Country event. On a beautiful sunny day in the Rosses, conditions were perfect for cross country running. The U-8s started with good runs by Michael Moore and Ryan Mc Menamin in the boys and Clodagh Neely picked up the first medal for Cranford in the girls, with Blathnaid Gallagher just missing out on a medal. Last weekend saw Cranford athletes travel to Athlone I.T. to participate in the National Indoor Championships. An outstanding performance by twin brothers Stephen and Conor Black saw the club claim gold and silver medals in the boys U-12 long jump. Stephen jumped an impressive 4.57m to claim gold, and in doing so broke the Irish record in this age group. His brother Conor jumped an equally impressive 4.51m to claim the silver position. Cranford A.C. finished the cross country season with some fine performances at the All-Ireland 'B' competition in Gransha, Derry on Sunday morning last. In wet and heavy underfoot conditions, this well organised event yielded some more national medals for our athletes. The U-11 girls were well represented by Molly Trearty, Lisa Dugera and Aobha Gallagher who all ran well. Cranford A.C. held its fundraising Christmas Hamper Draw in the Beach Hotel, Downings on Friday night last 14th Dec. The first prize Christmas Hamper was won by Glenn Gallagher, Glassan, Carrigart sold on the winning card by Julie Trearty. Many thanks to Mary Gallagher and Geraldine Boyce for putting together this hamper,which also included a €25 voucher donated by Mc Gettigans Butchers, Milford. Cranford A.C. had a very successful trip to the All Ireland Cross Country (uneven ages) in Wexford last weekend. The club returned with thirteen medals which is a great achievement for a small club at this level. The U-11 boys had a very successful race, earning them 2nd place silver medals in the team event. In good running conditions in Adamstown, Co. Wexford, the boys team were lead home with a very impressive run by Johnny Mc Groddy, finishing 10th. The U-9 girls and boys had a bit of a rushed start but finished well with lots of medals for Aoife Giles, Caoimhe Browne, Orla Neeley, Oisín Kelly, Oran Mc Menamin, Cian Mc Menamim and Luke Donnelly. The U-11 girls revealed a new star for the club with Molly Trearty coming in 3rd in her first Ulster appearance. Saturday last saw Cranford A.C. set off for the beautiful setting of Rostrevor, Co. Down for the even age Ulster Cross Country. A bright sunny day saw the Cranford athletes put in some great performances. First off were the U-10 girls with Lisa Dugera finishing 18th, Aobha Gallagher 33rd and Aoife Giles 47th. This was a great experience for these young girls. Next the U-10 boys had a very good performance with Oisín Kelly collecting the first of the clubs medals getting an individual 8th place. Well done to all Cranford athletes who competed in the recent Track and Field Meeting in Finn Valley. Many thanks to parents and Rose who did a great job on a bitter cold evening. U 10 Girls Competing in this age group, many for the first time, were Aoife Giles, Orla Giles, Caoimhe Browne and Aobha Gallagher. All girls competed well, with Aobha Gallagher coming 2nd in the Ball Throw and Aoife Giles coming 3rd in the Long Jump.
