What’s Happening...

Cranford A.C. travelled to Glaslough, Co. Monaghan on Sun 9th March to participate in the annual road race held by Glaslough Harriers. A large number of athletes attended the event and produced some great results. The U-8 girls was won by Clodagh Neely, who claimed the first trophy of the day. Ryan Mc Memamin claimed the next medal coming 5th in the boys U-10.The U-10 girls ran well with Zara Mc Fadden leading the way home in 8th place, closely followed by Laura Donnelly, Caoimhe Browne, Orla Neely and Danielle Murray. The U-10 boys claimed another trophy with Martin Dugera 1st, Max Roarty ... read more..
A large crowd was in attendence on the night and it was great to see all the athletes present for their awards. MC for the occasion was Myles Gallagher, who was as always,very competent and professional. All athletes recieved certificates which were presented to them by club officials Rose Gavaghan, Joe Boyce, Claire Neely,Ernie Mc Elhinney and Bridie Trearty. Achievement Awards were then presented by past club member John Fealty, Fanad and by councillors Noel Mc Bride, Liam Blaney and by Mayor Ian Mc Garvey. Sunday last saw a group of athletes from Cranford participate in the last Cross Country event of the season. They travelled to Dunboyne, Co. Meath to the National Cross Country B Championship to compete in extremely windy conditions, where over 800 athletes participated in the days events. The U-11 boys were well represented by Oisín Kelly 28th, Allan Neely 59th, Johnny Trearty 60th, Cian Mc Memamin, Orán Mc Memamin and Killian Browne. Last weekend saw Cranford A.C. travel to Waterford to compete in the All Ireland Cross Country uneven ages. This was the final event in the 2013 calender and it was great to have so many children compete at this level. In great running conditions, on an excellent course at Waterford I.T. our first group out were the U-11 boys. They were led home in fine style by Oisín Kelly who finished a superb 27th position. Saturday and Sunday last saw a group of Cranford AC athletes travel to the Meadowbank Arena in Magherafelt to compete in the Ulster Indoor Track and Field Champioships. Dylan Dorrian was our competitor in the U-13 boys, were he made the final in the 60m sprint. He went on to win an impressive gold medal 1st position in the long jump. Molly Trearty was our competitor in the U-13 girls and she had an excellent run, coming 2nd in the 600m race and claiming a silver medal. Thea Duffy and Michelle Mc Devitt competed in the U-14 girls 60m race and both ran very well,as did Niamh Mc Devitt who competed ... read more..
Sunday last saw the group of qualifying Cranford athletes take part in the All-Ireland Cross Country Even Age, in Santry, Dublin. In fine running conditions, the Cranford group were led off by Molly Trearty in the U-12 girls. Molly had a great run and finished 30th in a field of well over 100 runners. This was a fine performance in Molly's first All-Ireland. Next out were the team of U-12 boys. Star of the day was Johnny Mc Groddy, who had an impressive run to finish 5th and win an individual medal.Johnny led the field at different stages of the race and well deserved his 5th place medal. Sunday last saw Cranford athletes take part in the Ulster Cross Country Uneven Ages in Gransha, Derry. On a cold, but bright, sunny day Cranford athletes performed very well. Aoife Giles started the day off with a good run in the U-11 girls. THe U-11 boys were well represented by Oisín Kelly, who finished 12th collecting the first medal of the day. He was followed closely home by Liam Donnelly in 18th position,and by Allan Neely, Johnny Trearty, Oran Mc Menamin, Shane Coll and Killian Browne. Well done boys, some great running by all.
