What’s Happening...

Cranford only had one competitor in the second weekend of the indoor championships, which was held  in Athlone. Dylan Dorrian, his first event was the hurdles u/14 60m, which he had a tumble on the last hurdle clipping the top of it. Two gold Medals for Cranford at Juvenile Indoor Championships in Athlone   Sunday last was another great day for Cranford AC.   First up was Oisin Kelly and Liam Donnelly in the u12 long jump, both having great jumps with Oisin unlucky to miss out on a medal finishing in 4th place with a great jump of 4.30 metres and Liam jumping 3.89 metres.   Next up was Aoife Giles in the u12 girls shot put where Aoife put in an outstanding performance which earned her a gold medal and the All Ireland Champion title with a throw of 8.26 metres. Glaslough - 8th March 2015 Sunday last saw a big group of Cranford athletes travel to Glaslough in Co Monaghan for the annual Glaslough road races. The day got off to a great start with Michael Moore claiming 2nd place in the U8 boys race followed closely by Diarmuid Gallagher.  Next up was the u10 girls race with great runs by Clodagh Neely coming home in 3rd place and Blathnaid Gallagher in 10th place. In the u10 boys race we had more success with Caolan McFadden in 2nd place, Caolan Curran in 3rd place and Ryan McMenamim in 7th place all picking up valuable points. Good day out for Cranford AC in Derry Track & Field open meet. A number of Cranford athletes travelled to Derry last Sunday to compete in Olympian AC Winter Open Track and Field Meet. Michael Moore was first to compete in the Boys u/8, he had a great day picking up gold in all his events 60m 500m turbo javelin and long jump. Our girls u/10 were Blaithnaid Gallagher and Clodagh Neely Blaithnaid had a great jump in the long jump getting a silver medal while Clodagh came 2nd in the 500m and 3rd in the long jump good performances from both girls. Galway to compete in the national cross country B championships  on Sunday last.  On what was a very frosty, foggy morning  with the fog not lifting all day.Caitlin o Hara was first up in the girls u/11 with a good strong run finishing well up the field. Cranford AC at Ulster Indoor Track and Field Championships in  31 January and 1st February 2015 Cranford AC athletes had another successful weekend at the Ulster Indoor Championships. On Saturday our first competitor was Marcella Dolan who ran well in the U13 60 metre sprint and was unlucky not to qualify for the final.  Next up was the U12 boys long jump where Cranford came away with two medals with Oisin Kelly winning gold with a jump of 4.09 metres and Liam Donnelly winning a silver medal with a jump of 3.98 metres. Sunday morning saw a good crowd of Cranford athletes travel to the Templemore Stadium in Derry to take part in the Olympian AC Winter Track and Field Open Competition. First up was the U9 boys which saw Cranford get off to a great start in the 60 metres race with Caolan McFadden winning gold and Ryan McMenamim winning bronze. In the 300 metres Caolan won his second gold medal of the day with Ryan winning a silver medal. Cranford Ac Presentation Night - Beach Hotel, Downings   Myles Gallagher was MC for the night.   Certificates of achievement were presented to all athletes by Rose Gavigan, Ernie McElhinney, Anne O'Brien, Joe Boyce, Shauna Giles and Claire Neely.   Special presentations were then made by Ian Mcgarvey to Orla Neely for best attender at training. Most improved athlete Caolan Mcfadden. Bronagh Gallagher, Grace Trearty and Niamh Kelly were presented with achievement awards for being part of the u18 Donegal team who won Bronze medals at the National Cross Country ... read more..
