Cranford AC at Ulster Indoor Track and Field Championships in

31 January and 1st February 2015

Cranford AC athletes had another successful weekend at the Ulster Indoor Championships.

On Saturday our first competitor was Marcella Dolan who ran well in the U13 60 metre sprint and was unlucky not to qualify for the final.  Next up was the U12 boys long jump where Cranford came away with two medals with Oisin Kelly winning gold with a jump of 4.09 metres and Liam Donnelly winning a silver medal with a jump of 3.98 metres.

Aoife Giles won Cranford’s next medal claiming silver in the u12 girls shot put with a brilliant throw of 6.41 metres so well done Aoife.

Caitlin O’Hara was our only competitor in the u12 girls 600 metres where she had a good strong run.  In the u12 boys 600 metres Oisin Kelly led the whole way and came home in first place claiming his second gold medal of the day with the rest of the boys all having great runs with Liam Donnelly finishing 6th, Johnny Trearty 12th and Oran McMenamin 18th.

Next up was Molly Trearty in the u14 girls 800 metres.  Molly ran a brilliant race and won her heat easily but unfortunately for Molly the second heat was faster and she finished in 4th place overall.

Cranford had more success in the u14 boys 800 metres with Dylan Dorrian claiming a bronze medal after a great battle to the line where Dylan really showed his talent. Martin McGarvey also had a great race finishing well in 16th position.

Our final competitor of the day was in the U15 girls 800 metres where Rionach Giles finished in 10th position after a good strong race and was unlucky not to finish further up the field after a very impressive start.

On Sunday Cranford had another good day with Dylan Dorrian again having a great race in the U14 boys 60m hurdles claiming a bronze medal.  Barry Donnelly who just missed out on a medal coming 4th u14 shot putt.Allan Neely also done very well in the U13 boys shot putt coming in 5th place.

Well done to all the athletes who competed and good luck to Oisin, Liam, Aoife and Dylan who have now qualified for the National Indoor Championships in Athlone in March.

Thanks to the parents who travelled over the weekend and to the coaches Rose and Ernie for all their support to the athletes.
