Oisin Kelly on his way to winning his Gold medal and national title

National Title for Oisin Kelly of Cranford AC.

What a great weekend for Cranford AC Athletes at the Nationals Juvenile Championships in Tullamore last weekend.

First up we had Miah Fletcher in the Girls U12 600m.  Miah didn’t get a great start but fought hard to get back into the race and get back among the leading pack, finishing well coming home in 7th overall.

Well the race of the day for Cranford AC and Oisin Kelly was the Boys U15 800m. Oisin got off to a great start and tucked himself in behind the 2 leaders with one lap to go Oisin was laying in 3rd place, and about 15m behind the leaders and with 200m to go he made his run for home and coming off the bend laying in second gave one last kick and claimed the Gold medal and the National title. This is a great achievement for this young lad who runs in the 1500m this weekend.

On Sunday it was the turn of the girls, Aoife Giles and Teresa Mullen. Aoife was up first in the Discus – this is Aoife’s first Nationals in this event and finishing 9th overall showed her talent in the throws events. Next up was the shot put and throwing well got into the final, finishing in 6th overall.

Teresa Mullen was up next in the long jump, Teresa was on form and jumped 4.95m – a new Pb for her jumping her way to a bronze National medal – what a great day for Teresa.

Well done to all our athletes who did so well, this weekend it’s the turn of Oran McMenamin and Oisin Kelly in the 1500m and Aoife Giles in the javelin – good luck to you all from all in the club.

Thank you as always to the coaches and parents who travelled and helped out on the day.

Miah Fletcher
