Cranford’s AC Day at National Indoor Championships

The indoor season has come to an end for another year with great success for our Cranford AC Athletes at the National Indoor Championships held in Athlone IT.

First up on Saturday morning was Aoife Giles defending her National Title in the shot putt. After her opening throws Aoife was laying in second place, with only 6 now left in the final, her massive throw of 11.59m moved her into first place where she stayed and earned her the Gold Medal and the Girls u14 National Title.

Next up was Teresa Mullen, making her debut at the Nationals Indoors u13 Girls long jump and with tough competition Teresa jumped very well with all her jumps over 4.33 m. Her best jump of 4.57m earned Teresa a 3rd place National Medal – definitely one to watch.

Last up but by no mean least was Oisin Kelly who was running in the Boys u14 800m. Oisin had to run a heat to get into the final with the first 4 from each heat going through. Oisin got off to a great start in the final and was in contention for the whole race and with 300m to go it could have been anyone’s race. Oisin fought hard and after a real battle came home in 5th place.

Well done our Athletes who have shown they can hold their own with the best in Ireland.

Thanks to all the parents and supporters who travelled to Athlone to cheer on our Athletes and as always thanks to our coaches Eamon Giles, Ernie McElhinney, Joe Boyce, Bridie Trearty and Rose Gavaghan.
