Cranford AC duo take Gold and Silver at the National Indoor Championships in Athlone

Four of Cranford AC’s finest young athletes travelled to Athlone last weekend to compete in the National Indoor Championships.

First up on Saturday morning was Max Roarty who competed in the boys U/12 long jump, with a fine performance just missing out on the last 8.

Next up was Aoife Giles  in the girls U/13 shot putt, with a outstanding throw of 10m 26cm and getting a new Pb claimed a national silver medal. Well done Aoife.

Later in the afternoon it was the turn of Oisin Kelly and Liam Donnelly in the boys U/13  long jump. Both boys jumped very well with Oisin just missing out on a medal by 3cm.

Sunday morning brought the heats of the 600m where Oisin finished a comfortable 2nd place, qualifying for the final in the afternoon. Oisin was leaving nothing to chance in his race with a very fast start Oisin led for the first 200m, never looking in any real danger, when the bell went with a lap to go Oisin went into the lead again and went on to win and claim gold. What a fine performance from this young lad.

Thanks to the coaches Eamon Giles, Ernie McElhinney and Rose Gavaghan and all the parents who travelled down. This is the indoor season finished now. Training will now continue for the track and field season ahead.
