Cranford AC Athletes were very busy over this last week with a number of Athletes representing their secondary schools in Antrim, an open meet in Lifford and Day 2 of the Donegal Championships in Letterkenny.

Last Wednesday 4 of our Athletes travelled to Antrim to compete in the District C Ulster Finals. Molly Trearty competed in the senior 1500m with a fine performance coming home in 7th place. Johnny MC Groddy had a great race coming home in 4th place just missing out on a medal. Aoife Giles continues with her good form bringing home Gold for her school Loreto Milford in the shot put and goes on to represent her school in the next round. Eoin Kelly also did very well In the Hurdles qualifying for the next round.

 

On Thursday evening our young athletes travelled to Lifford to compete in the Lifford Strabane open meet. It was a lovely evening and we got off to a great start with Karen Neely in the 300m with a great race claiming the silver medal and a bronze in the Turbo Javelin U9 Girls. Killian Caldwell had a great evening brining home 4 medals with two Golds, in the 60m and jumping 2.82 in the long jump with a new PB for him, also two silver medals in the 300m and Turbo Javelin.

 

Our U/10 boy Diarmuid Gallagher continued to bring in the medals for Cranford with 3 Gold medals in his events – 500m, 60m and Long Jump and bronze in the Turbo Javelin.

 

Blathnaid Gallagher is back in her favourite event again with the Turbo Javelin and coming back to form with a good throw getting herself a bronze medal. Clodagh Neely had a good run in the 600m coming home in 3rd place.

 

Our boys U12 had a very good evening with the boys taking all three medals in the 600m with Aidan MC Fadden coming home in 1st, Oisin MC Nulty 2nd and Eoin Friel 3rd. Aidan and Oisin also came 1st and 2nd in the 60m and Oisin came 2nd in the Turbo Javelin. Eoin also got 3rd in the Turbo Javelin

 

Max Roarty had a good run in the 600m coming home in 2nd place and getting a bronze in the Javelin – this is a new event for Max.

 

Johnny Trearty also had a good evening coming home in 3rd place in the 200m and 3rd in the Javelin.

 

On Sunday it was Day 2 of the Donegal Championships which were held at the Aura Letterkenny. Teresa Mullen got the day off to a great start in the  Girls 60m U 13 getting a bronze medal and went on to get silver in the 200m and in Teresa favourite event the long jump jumping over 4m to get Gold.

 

Aoife Giles kept the Gold medals coming with Gold in the Shot and Gold in the Javelin.

 

Allan Neely was up next in the shot put Boys U 15. Allan had a good throw and earned himself a bronze medal.

 

Oran McMenamin had a very good run in the 200m qualifying for the final.

 

We had 3 of our boys in the 600m U 13 with good runs coming from all of them.  Max Roarty coming home in 2nd place and Max also won a bronze medal in the Javelin.  Cian McMenamin just missed out on a medal coming home in 4 th place and Conor Neely came home in 5th place. Connor had a good jump in the long Jump and claimed a bronze medal.

 

Our Girls U13 were Nazara MC Fadden, Caoimhe Neely and Orla Neely. Nazara had a good run in the 60m getting through to the final and a great run in the 600m, Caoimhe  had a good run in the 600m coming home in 5th place and Orla got a PB in the Javelin throwing over 12m getting herself a bronze medal.

 

Thanks to the coaches Eamon Giles, Ernie MC Elhiney, Joe Boyce, Rose Gavaghan and Bridie Trearty and to all the parents who travelled. Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday evening in Downings.
