Cranford AC perform well at Ulster Uneven Championships.
Caolan Mc Fadden takes Ulsters title.
On what was a wet and cold winters morning all roads led to the Finn Valley Centre in Stranorlar for the Northern Ireland and Ulster Cross Country Championships uneven ages.
As luck would have it the rain passed over and the sun came out for the first race of the day which was the Girls U9. This was a non Championships race and our  girls Karen Neely, Tara McGarvey, Orla Cunningham and Emma Mc Gee all got off to a great start with Karen leading the team home in 6th place closely followed by Tara in 11th, Orla in 14th and Emma in 23rd – well done girls. Our boys U9 were equally impressive with Jerry Coyle coming home in 15th place and Killian Caldwell in 18th.
First Championships race was the Girls U11 running over a distance of 1200m. Miah Fletcher took up the lead with Cait O’Reilly from Cavan and these two girls battled it out from start to finish with Cait winning and Miah coming home in 2nd place with some great running from these two girls. Miah also led the Donegal team home to Gold medals. Lucie McGarvey had a very strong run running out of age coming home in 15th place and Mevagh McBride also ran very well.
Next up was the race of the day for Cranford with Caolan McFadden leading the race from the gun and as the race went on he looked very comfortable stretching his lead and taking the gold medal and the title of Ulster Champion, Caolan also led the Donegal team home to gold and his team of Ryan Mc Menamin, Michael Moore, Dean Hewitson and Diarmuid Gallagher to bronze medals. These boys will now qualify for the Nationals in Waterford in December.
In the U13 Girls Clodagh Neely put in a strong performance with Joycelene Diver, Nazara McFadden, Orla Neely, Teresa Mullen, Blathnaid Gallagher and Caoimhe Brown all running well, good to see Teresa back from injury.
Our boys U13 were up next with a great performance from Max Roarty coming home in a impressive 8th position and with Cian McMenamin coming home in 25th, Eoin Friel 42nd Aidan Mc Fadden 56th Martin Dugera 58th and Oisin Mc Nulty 79th these boys gutsy performance paid off with the boys being placed 4th team and now qualify for the Nationals in Waterford. It’s good to see Martin Dugera back running again.
Caitlin O’Hara had a very good race in the U15 Girls in what was worsening conditions under foot coming home in 31st place.
In what was very muddy conditions the Boys U15 took to the start with Oisin Kelly running well to come home in 14th place followed by Oran McMenamin, Allan Neely and Killian Mc Fadden all finishing well.
Johnny McGroddy was our only boy U17 over a distance of 4000m where he got off to a great start and stayed with the lead pack for over 3000m and continued to battle to the end coming home in 15th place.
Last race of the day for Cranford was the Boys U19 with Eoin Kelly and Kevin Logue over a distance of 6000m with what was now heavy conditions, the boys put in a gutsy performance with Eoin running very well coming home in 18th place and Kevin in 24th. Well done boys.
