Cranford AC perform well at the Little Athletics in Finn Valley

On what was a beautiful sunny evening our young athletes travelled to Finn Valley for the Little Athletics competition on Wednesday and with over 400 children competing it made for a great meeting.

Our youngest athlete on the night, Orla Cunningham, got off to a great start qualifying for the 60m final where she had a great race.

Karen Neely performed very well in all events and was unlucky not to win a medal in the 300m where she had a real battle to the end and was just pipped on the line to come home in 4th place. Killian Caldwell also done very well in the turbo javelin and 300m.

Michael Moore qualified for the final of the 60m, came 6th in the 300m and 4th in the Javelin. Diarmuid Gallagher also ran very well in the 60m and 300m.

Miah Fletcher qualified for the final of the 60m and had a great race to win a Silver medal in the 500m.

Caolan McFadden had a great night where he came 3rd in the 60m final, jumped 3.46m in the long jump and had a great run in the 500m to win the Gold medal. Ryan McMenamin also had a good night where he performed very well in all events, jumping 3.04m in the long jump and finishing well up the field in the 500m.

Clodagh Neely qualified for the final of the 60m, jumped 3.10m in the long jump and came 7th in the 600m. Blaithnaid Gallagher jumped 3.06 in the long jump and dug deep in the 600m to finish strongly coming home in 9th position. Aidan McFadden performed well in all events qualifying for the final of the 60m, jumped 3.26m in the long jump and had a great race to come home in 6th place in the 600m.

Our u13 Girls all had a good night with Caoimhe Neely running well in the 60m, Nazara McFadden qualified for the final of the 60m and came 4th in the 600m, Orla Neely had good performances in the 60m, 600m, shot put and Javelin and Teresa Mullen jumped a brilliant 4.18m in the long jump to win a bronze medal and then had to leave that competition to run in the 600m where she stayed with the lead pack throughout and had an excellent finish to claim the Silver medal.

Conor Neely ran well in the 60m sprint, came 5th in a very competitive 600m and jumped well in the long jump.

Aoife Giles showed her true class by winning Gold in the shot put and Gold in the Javelin with a great throw of 19.08m.

Oran McMenamin looked very strong in the 800m and after a great run came home to win a Silver medal with Johnny Trearty just missing out on a medal coming home in 4th place and throwing well in the Javelin finishing in 5th position.

Thanks to all the parents and coach Joe Boyce for travelling to Finn Valley on what was a very enjoyable evening.
