A large crowd was in attendence on the night and it was great to see all the athletes present for their awards.
MC for the occasion was Myles Gallagher, who was as always, very competent and professional.

All athletes recieved certificates which were presented to them by club officials Rose Gavaghan, Joe Boyce, Claire Neely,Ernie Mc Elhinney and Bridie Trearty.

Achievement Awards were then presented by past club member John Fealty, Fanad and by councillors Noel Mc Bride, Liam Blaney and by Mayor Ian Mc Garvey. The Mayor regailed the crowd with tales of his past sporting experiences and commended all involved in a voluntary capacity in sport.

Mayor Mc Garvey made a special presentation to Cranford’s first Cross Country team who won the Ulster Junior Championships in Melmount, Strabane in 1964. Members of that team who were present to recieve their award on Fri night were Paddy Marley, Eamon Giles, Pat Marley, Hugo Duggan and Michael Mc Hugh. Other members included Edward Mc Groddy,Hugh Birney, Peter Mc Cafferty and John Walsh. Not only did the Cranford team win that day, but they were led impressively home by Paddy Marley who tied first place with Christy Mc Monagle, St. Mary’s. Paddy recalled the race very well and the achievement it was for the club to win on that day.

Many thanks to all involved in organising the very successful and enjoyable awards night.
