Cranford A.C. had one of its biggest entries at the Donegal Evens Age Cross Country held in Castlefin on Sunday 7th Oct. On a fine, sunny autumn day well over forty athletes put in some great performances, lots of them competing for the first time.

The U 8 girls had a great start with Annie Mc Groddy coming 2nd, Ciara Donnelly 7th and Orla Neely, Caoimhe Browne and Bronagh Duffy finishing 12th,13th and 14th. What a great performance for these young girls.

The U 8 boys had an equally fine start with Martin Dugera winning in 1st position, Cian Mc Memamin in 5th and young Ryan Mc Menamim finishing strongly.

The U 10 girls also ran well with Lisa Dugera finishing 12th, Aobha Gallagher 18th and Aoife Giles and Ruth Mc Fadden running well.

The U 10 boys claimed the first of Cranfords team medals of the day, winning silver in the team event. First in for Cranford was young Oisín kelly 8th, Liam Donnelly 14th followed by Allan Neely,Oran Mc Menamin,Shane Coll,Cathair Sweeney,Issac Mc Ilwaine and Killian Browne. Well done boys.

The U 12 girls also ran well with Thea Duffy,Michelle Mc Devitt and Rionach Giles coming in 15th, 16th and 17th positions followed home by Laura Dugera and Holly Mc Ilwaine.

The U 12 boys also claimed team medals, winning silver in the team event. An excellent race by Johhny Mc Groddy coming 2nd, Conor Black 8th, Stephen Black 9th, Rónán Gallagher 11th, Dylan Dorrian 13th followed by Eoghan Moore,Martin Mc Garvey,Liam Doherty and Barry Donnelly. Excellent running boys.

The U 14 girls claimed more team medals for Cranford, claiming bronze in the team event. All girls finished strongly together with Julie Trearty, Anna Mc Fadden, Jessica mc Elwaine and Niamh Mc Devitt all giving fine performances.
Eoin Kelly was the only U14 boy and gave an excellent performance as always coming 7th in this very strong field.

The U 16 girls claimed the last of Cranfords team medals, winning bronze medals in the team event. Well done to Niamh Kelly 10th, Brónach Gallagher 13th and Emer Trearty and Áine Green who all put in great efforts in this age group.
Shannon Mc Groddy had a great return to form winning 1st place in the girls U 18 event with Roisín Boyce finshing strongly in 4th position. Well done to our senior girls.

Well done also to Christopher Murray who finished in a medal position in the U 18 boys.

This was a most enjoyable day out and many thanks to all our coaches and parents and to the event organisers who held a very well run event. Good luck to all our athletes in this weekends cross country event in Killybegs.
