Cranford AC Notes.

On Saturday 28th June, Cranford had 9 athletes travel to Tullamore the home of Tullamore Harriers to compete in the National Track and Field Championships.
These athletes had to qualify in Ulster to compete against the very best in Ireland .
After some thundery downpours to start the day, the weather cleared to be a hot and sunny afternoon for competitors.
Aimee Bassett and Olivia Ni Curran were first to compete for Cranford and this being their first all Ireland’s they couldn’t wait to get on the track to compete in the under 9 long jump. Both girls had an amazing experience at this national event and jumped competitively within their field finishing in 11th place well done girls.
Jerry Coyle and Ciaran Cooney were up next in boys under 10 long jump. These boys demonstrated great determination in their jumping to finish in the top 8 in Ireland with a top jump of 3.45m, well done boys.
Caolan McFadden and Miah Fletcher were next up running the under 13 600m in tropical Tullamore temperatures which unfortunately seemed to sap their energy, although they both raced well finishing 9th and 11th respectively with a highly competitive field of athletes.
The final race of the day was the under 13 girls relay with Mevagh McBride first out of the blocks, passing the baton to Amy Cullen , then onto Miah Fletcher and the final leg well challenged by Ellie McFadden who finished the race strongly, unfortunately there were 3 heats and although the team ran extremely well with excellent baton changes they did not qualify for the finals.
Amy Cullen also competed in the girls U 13 long jump and demonstrated some great jumps to qualify for the last 8 with a fine jump of 4.49m, ending up in 6th place in her first all Ireland’s fantastic at national level for Amy, this gaining her vital experience for the future.
Well done to all our athletes who done so well.
Thank you to all the wonderful coaches and parents who travelled to Tullamore to support our athletes.
We wish Oisin Kelly good luck in day 2 of the National championship this weekend.
